  • INTERVIEW Zeng Fanzhi

    Translations:

Chinese contemporary art was sold just like hotcakes in 2008. Looking back over the past, collectors used to buy their artworks and resold them; however, Chinese contemporary art entered a new phase after this 4 years. The days people trade at a high were gone and truly valuable artworks have been demanded. We visited Mr. Zeng Fanzhi, who is well known with his Mask Series that had a strong impact on the world.

Top Chinese Artist Part Ⅲ Zhang Xiaogang

Ichii: This attractive statue of girl reminds me of a terra-cotta figure. The colors look like ceramics painting.
Zhang: This was actually before getting polished to paint. I left it on purpose because I liked it a lot.
Ichii: You are sensitive to lights. This work looks like it is between light and shadow.
Zhang: Right. I am planning to have a bright side on my new work because this statue inspired me.
Ichii: Your works tell me that Chinese traditional culture is in your soul.

  • Solo Exhibition by Shibu Natesan “Uninterrupted Speech” at Vadehra Art Gallery

    Translations:

Vadehra Art Gallery will present Uninterrupted Speech by Shibu Natesan, the artist’s first show in India after a gap of 8 years. The opening reception starts at 6pm on March 15.

Natesan was one of the pioneers to bring back realism to the art scene in India in the 1990s.

In the 1990s Natesan was instrumental in initiating ‘Mediatic Realism’ in the Indian art scene. His new series is an extension of this style but is also more fluid than his previous work. The ‘uninterruption’ of his inner talk is visible in his smooth, flowing strokes. There is a newfound positivity and buoyancy in his work, which Natesan believes, is a sign of his maturing ease with the message and the medium.
