ART TAIPEI 2015 view
ART TAIPEI, propelled and run by the Taiwan Art Gallery Association, in hopes of consolidating the respective strengths of each region, and moreover to unify the sophisticated, unwavering key players of the Asian art scene: Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Korea. Henceforth, this could encourage an influx of artistic perspectives from South East Asia and Europe. ART TAIPEI is proud to have invited a total of 150 domestic and foreign galleries: 67 from Taiwan,11 from Europe, 42 from Japan/Korea, 19 from China, and 11 from South East Asia. There had been 55 galleries applying for the first time to be part of ART TAIPEI 2016 where 38 were successfully accepted into the fair after review and selection. In continuation of ART TAIPEI 2015’s feature sections, we will be reintroducing the following fair areas: Galleries, Future, Frontier, and Public Art. On top of these recurring aspects, we will also be launching a new section called Voice of Image. Altogether this forms a complete map of ART TAIPEI 2016’s exhibition areas. This reflects ART TAIPEI’s forward-looking mindset by incorporating multimedia innovations.
In the end of 1950s, the foundation of Fifth Moon Group and Dongfang Group started a new era for Taiwanese art scene. In the recent years, with the official museums holding retrospectives of two groups in succession and the Chinese collecting market chasing after the oriental abstract art, the market of Taiwan contemporary art draws more and more attention. Several domestic galleries will bring the contemporary artists whom they have been in long-term cooperation with. At the same time, Spearheaded by Taiwan Art Gallery Association (TAGA) and in alliance with APAGA, ART TAIPEI 2016’s breadth of impact shall extend from Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea, Japan, Indonesia, all the way to Australia. These 8 important members of APAGA will all be putting wonderful works on display such as Japanese famous sculptor Katsura Funakoshi, MAGNGU PUTRA who shows in Gwangju Museum of Art, Zorikto Dorzhiev who was invited by President Putin of Russia to the BRICs dinner in person, Chinese contemporary artist Lu Zhengyuan, Ko Si-Chi who is regarded as the No.1 contemporary photographer in Taiwan among others. Those highly valued artists will bring their work to the art fair in person.
Each year, Art Taipei holds international art seminars, Taipei Art Forum, to discuss the important issues and research tendency of art industry academic studies and the practice of market during the exhibition. In addition, the curators and artists of 2016 Taipei Bienniale, Taiwan Bienniale, and Greater Taipei Bienniale of Contemporary Arts will be invited to participate in the forum.
Taiwan Art Gallery Association’s Executive Director Rick Wang Rick Wang expresses his final hopes for the upcoming fair: “ART TAIPEI 2016 is expected to adopt a stunningly refreshing new visage. At the same time, we hope to provide and circulate resources that could be shared with fellow associations, primarily through APAGA. We only have one real motivation in mind: to reinforce Asia’s most cherished qualities at ART TAIPEI’s grand art exposition, yet again.”
