The solo exhibition “Sleepers” of Japanese Artist, Atsushi Suwa, will be held at Kwai Fung Hin Art Gallery in Hong Kong. And also we can view his new works at the exhibition “Currents Japanese contemporary art” at James Christie Room in Hong Kong from May 9th to 28th (from the 20th by appointment only).
The theme of his solo exhibition at Kwai Fung Hin Art Gallery is ‘Dream’ in a broad sense. This show was planned through the good offices of the late art curator Akihiko Takami (1955-2011) in 2009 and is now ready for realization after a run-up of several years.
Approximately 21 points are planned in this exhibition. This consists of the portrait series “ Kazuo Ohno” of Japanese famous dancer, the late Kazuo Ohno; selected works from the series “Fatherhood” which treats death and the life of blood relationship; and 11 new works from the series “Sleepers” and “Unison”. In the series “Sleepers” and “Unison”, early in his career Atsushi Suwa painted the sleeping figures repeatedly. In addition, a portrait of a journalist, the late Mika Yamamoto (1967-2012), is going to have its first public exhibition. She was shot dead on August 20, 2012 while covering the war in the city of Aleppo in northern Syria.
